We enjoyed a day of networking opportunities, engaging instruction, and interactive panel discussions by industry leaders at the Innovare Center for Defense Industrial Base (DIB) 4.0, to explore the impact of the 4th Industrial Revolution on the Defense Industrial Base.

The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has grown increasingly reliant on the Defense Industrial Base’s (DIB) research and development to deliver game-changing capabilities to the warfighter. The digitization brought forth through the 4th Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) further enhances DIB’s ability to innovate and improve the military’s supply chain resiliency.

With these opportunities, of course, come grave cybersecurity risks and challenges. Faction Networks and Pods and our Virtual Private Circuit bring a new an innovative approach to securing IOT and all other edge devices against attacks and compromise by getting them off the Internet and into a truly Zero Trust, private and secure network controlled by human users.

Another huge challenge for DIB 4.0 is the integration of AI to put it in control of all of these critical devices in our homes, workplace and economy. Faction Networks also have a critical role to play in AI: ensuring human control of ‘Agency’. It will do this in two ways:

  1. Prevent Unauthorized Access. By taking critical systems and devices OFF the Internet and into secure, private Faction Networks created and controlled by human users.
  2. Human-in-the-loop Control of Actions. By issuing temporary keys, certificates and/or tokens from those Faction Networks, with flexible approval workflows by human users that are impervious to external attack or manipulation.
